Petzl Tikka RXP Headlamp Review
November 8, 2013
First off I must say I am blown away by the reactive lighting technology that Petzl has developed and included in the Petzl Tikka RXP headlamp. It is awesome. I look far away and the brightness almost instantly ramps up. I look back down at my map and the light is again reduced to the perfect brightness. I also really like how bright this headlamp is. This is the only headlamp I know of that gets above 200 lumens without having a remove battery pack making it very lightweight. Cycling through the various modes isn’t the most intuitive but you get used to it pretty quick.
The only thing I really don’t like about this headlamp is the battery life. It only lasts about 10 hours and because it uses a rechargeable battery you can’t just toss new batteries in when you go dark. Outside of activities like bike commuting where you can recharge it every night I don’t think I can justify bringing this headlamp into the backcountry – 10 hours of battery just isn’t enough.
Great for bike commuting or other activities where battery longevity isn’t an issue.
