Sea to Summit Aeros Traveller Pillow Review

What always makes a night’s sleep in the backcountry better? A pillow that’s what! The Sea to Summit Aeros Traveller Pillow, one of two “Aeros” ultralight pillows introduced by Sea to Summit this season,  aims to give you the comfort you desire but without the weight penalty associated with most pillows. I, like many of you, have a love/hate relationship with pillows.  They make my nights way better but I always cringe at packing the extra ounces around.  While stuffing a bunch of extra clothes in a stuff sack is one way to go this rarely seems to work for me since I don’t bring that many extra pieces of clothing.  That’s why I pack a pillow – nothing is worse than hiking all day with a crick in your neck.

The Aeros Traveller is advertised to weigh only 2 oz. so it won’t break your back to pack it along with you.  Mine, on my home scale, came in underweight at 1.65 oz! It uses a very nice soft fabric that doesn’t rub, stick to your face when you lie on it, or feel sharp where the fabric is welded together.  Another interesting feature is the two way inflate/deflate valve used on this pillow.  It works great, as you would expect from a company like Sea to Summit, and makes me wonder if they have plans to begin producing sleeping pads using the same fabric material and valve as used in the Aeros pillows.

You might wonder why I am reviewing the Traveller version of this pillow rather than the traditionally shaped Aeros Ultralight Pillow that Sea to Summit also created – I like the Traveller because I rock a hammock as often as I can in the summertime! I’ve found that when hammock camping having a travel pillow is perfect since you are sleeping in a different position than when you traditionally lie flat on a sleeping pad.

Conclusion:

It doesn’t matter which version you go with – either the Sea to Summit Aeros Traveller Pillow or the Sea to Summit Aeros Ultralight Pillow – you won’t be disappointed.  It prevents your back from hurting since it is light and it prevents your neck from hurting by helping you sleep through the night!
