C2 Elite Power Wool Half Zip Review
October 24, 2016
The Elite Half Zip from C2 is a classic base layer that’s great for when temperatures start to drop. This next to skin layer is made from Polartec Power Wool, a “natural synthetic-hybrid” material, to achieve the benefits of both wool and synthetic.
When the snow starts falling and winter arrives the first thing I reach for is a good base layer. The drop in temperature combined with the damp winter weather in the Pacific Northwest means a good base layer should keep you warm but also wick and release moisture to keep you dry in a moist environment.
The C2 Elite Half Zip is able to meet both of those requirements with ease. A slim, but not skin tight, cut layers perfectly underneath a puffy and shell to let the Polartec Power Wool fabric work it’s magic. The combination of both wool and synthetic material together helps the Elite transition perfectly across a wide variety of intensity levels.
Small touches on the Elite help set it apart from other base layers on the market. Notably, the very deep chest zipper to aid in temperature control and flat seams to keep things like backpack straps from chafing. While this piece isn’t loaded with lots of bells and whistles it should appeal to those looking for a streamlined base layer that doesn’t mess around.
The only noticeable mark against the Elite Half Zip is that while the Power Wool fabric provides a variety of benefits it does have a slight itch when worn directly against the skin. If this is something that bothers you C2 sells the same base layer but made from Power Dry – a fully synthetic fabric.
The C2 Elite Half Zip Base Layer is a super versatile high performance base layer with everything you need and nothing you don’t.
